Got my EotR tickets for 2022, now just need BITFs recommendations Also got my tickets. Would be a bit easier doing some recommendations if we knew the line-up, but without repeating anyone from this year, I'd like to think I'll be in a position to recommend The Murder Capital, Phoebe Bridgers, Lucy Dacus, The Lounge Society, King Hannah, Vlure, Youth Sector, Egyptian Blue, Newdad, Silverbacks, Working Men's Club, Panic Shack, Wet Leg, Skullcrusher, Grave Flowers Bongo Band and Les Big Byrd to name but a few.

so.....ive got Portals Festival this weekend. Which is the IDEAL time to be pinged by the Covid app, innit? cue nerve racking 24 hours whilst my test gets......er.....tested. Sheeeeet. Fingers crossed. thanks. No result as yet. But ive done the 'instant' one, and im negative. And, if i dont get results from the postal one, I will do the instant one tmrw, Sat and sunday. Weird thing is, even though Ive been pinged, I dont have to isolate anymore as ive had 2 of bill gates evil 5g juice injected into me. So, in theory.....im still allowed to carry on with life. Which means Im still ok to go? IT feels....wrong. But im not sure if thats just due to the months of shit that has happened, and Im being over cautious. Once again, im conflicted. Once again, covid is a pisser.

My test was negative. I can go to Portals with as much of a guilt free state on mind as normal. Which is nice.

Had a great time at End of the Road, so good to be back at a festival and enjoying live music amongst like-minded people. Despite the amount of tickets on resale seemed very busy. A few issues (toilets and less food stall) I think they did an excellent job putting on the festival, next years already bought.
highlights included W. H . Lung, Lazarus Kane, Dry Cleaning, Little Simz and Damon Albarn (had only meant to catch first part of his set and go see all of Arlo Parks but he was mesmerising and stayed for the whole set and caught end of Arlo).
Caught a lot of other good bands over the weekend and great to catch-iup with/meet for the first time some forum regulars

SO.....I forgot to 'review' Portals.
To sum up.....First day, I drank 12 pints without realising I did this. Silly boy.
Aces & Eights 4 cheese pizza was divine. Their venue was smaller than my living room (I do not have a big living room).
Everyone is friendly and welcoming.
FANTASTIC value for money! I had to buy 2 day tickets as weekend tickets were sold out. But it was still only 40 nicker. For an ABUNDANCE of talent. Even the stuff I saw and didnt like were giving their all.
The things that were brilliant are....
CLT DRP!!! WHAT a set! Blistering! Angry! Almost therapy with riffs. But riffs through, i assume, around 57 effects pedals at once. And singer Annie is a star in waiting. Want to see them again & again & again & again & again!
Vasa! A Glaswegian And So I Watch You From Afar. RIGHT up my wheelbase. Epic. Groovy. Awesome.
Sugar Horse! Thought I might be a little gutted to be missing Ohmms. I wasnt. A chameleonic band. Melodic Oceansize esque epicness then MONSTER riffs, mostly in the same song. A fantastic noise. And a great line in metal tees.
Pijn! A metal GY!BE. Very serious. Look like yr metal covers band playing Motley crue. Actually play beautifully crafted epicness.
2022 Has been announced for May next year. Weekend tickets for £30. An absolute bloody steel.

Liverpool was brilliant, good bands, great venues in a simply fab city, report to follow. Looking forward to Ipswich's version of Sound City feedback too. Sound City Ipswich was covered in the gigs thread, but to summarise, it was ace. 2 new/pop up venues too, in a disused church and an old swimming pool, which worked brilliantly. My picks were Yard Act, TV Priest, Cool greenhouse, Anorak Patch and Katie J Pearson.

Liverpool Sound City 2021 Where to start? Thought it would be a bunch of good gigs in a decent place, but it was actually a major musical and cultural experience, brilliant from start to finish. Alert: this may all be too gushing for some… Firstly the organisation. Expected ropey, but actually pretty solid. Three nights [plus Sat/Sun afternoons] of a good schedule, and a great wristband / festival hub at St Lukes aka ‘The bombed out church’ (take that literally..). Loads of friendly, helpful staff. Schedule just about worked, bar the inevitable Saturday night clash nightmare. The location. The more I looked before going, I realised they’d actually got this all within the square half mile of the buzziest, partiest (I just invented that word), coolest part of town. It was wonderful and really quite brilliant. The Ropewalks are old Victorian warehouses and some Georgian terraces that survived the war, interspersed with pretty cool redevelopment and the odd dodgy vacant lot. Kind of 80s Greenwich village meets noughties Soho? Everything converted to a bar or something cooler. And so many people partying that had nothing to do with Sound City. Adjacent John Moores Uni and near to Liverpool Uni. The best cafes, some really good restaurants, clubs and bars galore. And really close to the Albert Dock / Tate and Liver buildings and waterfront, then not far to the Georgian gorgeousness around Everyman theatre and the cathedrals. And the cathedrals are jaw droppingly wonderful, I cannot understate their wonder. Could have spent a week there outside of the festival. You do pay for the location if not resident, but imho it is worth it. So a music festival in a top, top cultural location. Add Sunday soccer frenzy in too for more added flavour. Its probably a quarter century since I was in Liverpool, and I regret that gap. Was truly fab. The venues. Apparently 173 gigs across ~11 venues over 3 days. All within short distance of each other. Grand Central is a fantastic turn of century Victoriana meets Edwardian splendour palace, ringed by umpteen Irish bars. This was the ‘big’ venue. And if you needed it, you could sit down in the circle. Art Club as second venue was impressive, but pricey [beer on taps all off, cans of San Miguel for over £6…?] but historic and with great acoustics. Shipping Forecast and Jacaranda characterful basement bars (located right on piss up street central). BUT, my new finds as venues: Jimmy’s, a corner bar with a great purpose built downstairs, and bright upstairs bar (with its own beer brews) overlooking the Bombed out Church; LEAF: just wonderful as café / bistro / bar (mega breakfasts) and a quite gorgeous Adamesque ceilinged upstairs gig space with good drinks choices at good prices. And last, but best, Kazimier. The garden and stockroom. I wish I’d created this concept and venue, and failing that I wish it was my local. Trust me, just go if you can. A theoretical 100 capacity (all 100 would be really very cosy..) and great sound, fab beers – super industrial shabby, it is Liverpool’s take on the ruin bars of Budapest / Eastern Europe. Maybe better though. That’s all fine you say, but bands? The line up at Ipswich definitely pressed many more of my buttons, but I thought Liverpool was really very good. It was much less ‘post punk’ and more Beatles / Oasis plus some RnB meets hip hop, but it was excellent, and I think it’s intent was quite ‘party’? Big acts there such as Lathums, Mysterines and Red Rum club would fit Latitude well. Anyway, to avoid boring you more here are my top five in order (I didn’t see all 173 btw): Luke la Volpe: he will have been depressed at the turnout (he was against Mysterines in Liverpool tbf) but the guy is astonishingly talented, just so, so good. Perhaps too mainstream for some here, but incredible. Absolutely incredible. Vegan Leather: more Scots, there to have fun, self-deprecate, hit guitars and enjoy themselves. Clever, fun, and very good. Murder Capital: I’m going to be honest that I felt seriously short changed here. Just 30 minutes of a scheduled 45/50 and no slow section. But what was played was amazing. Probably best live band in the world…. glad I had a glimpse. L’Objectif: watch out for these guys. Not changing the musical direction of the world, but they absolutely rip it up. And (get this) they are all under 18 years old. Cocky, Leeds, excellent. You heard it here first – they’ll be all over 2022 festivals with mosh pits in abundance. The Snuts: they already have their moshpits (even on the slow songs …. ) and they are so much fun but actually to listen to they are really, really fab and tight and fun. Most gig beer throwing I have seen for ever (at over £6 a pint eh?). And my third Scots band in the five. ‘mon Sound City.

(not quite sure why that happened, but the 'missing' fifth band is Vegan Leather: wonderful, self deprecating and fun Scots. Hit guitars, dance, have fun)
