("Very excited by this. everything he does is just great as far as I am concerned.")...you didn't have to grow up in the same town as him! Collected affectations like stamps. Overnight mockney twonk... You are right, of course, but I forgive him because he is one of the most innovative "mainstream" acts today, and the diversity of his material is so impressive. Gorillaz are a fantastic "band". Monkey was delightful. Dr Dee was the most moving and impressive modern opera performance I have ever seen. And no one has ever made me enjoy getting drenched in a thunderstorm quite like him!

Hurrah! Horses for course as ever - I've never liked any Albarn project and find that both he and Alex are more disagreeable now than ever. And they were dreadful individuals even aged 16! Laboured tunes like 'Tender' which make some people swoon just give me a little sick taste in my mouth To balance this out, I barely know anyone in real life who would ever want to listen to any of the random stuff I play all day, so all's fair etc...

I dunno, Fiveuke. Your Xmas CD was on almost constant rotation in the raffles household this festive season and everyone loved it.
Which reminds me- I still owe you something!

The Roundhouse seems to becoming my venue of choice for the year. I've now got Sleater-Kinney, TV on the Radio and British Sea Power there to look forward to.

Oh F***!
I just screwed up.
Just bought tickets for Mrs R and me to see I am Kloot at Electric Ballroom.
Went to put it in my dairy and discovered it's the same night as I already have a ticket for Public Sector Broadcasting at The Roundhouse.
I suppose as they're both in Camden, I could see half of each (just like a Latitude clash- eh!)
But probs I'll go to PBS cos I've never seen them before whereas I've seen I am Kloot loads.
I am a plonker.

Last night I saw Neneh Cherry at the Prince Albert in Brighton, 100 capacity. She was amazing, vocals as good as on record and she really enjoyed it. Played a lot of stuff off her latest album which, I like a lot anyway ,but made it sound even fresher, she was backed by a drums and keyboard/effects (think the guys go by the name of Rocket No 9). Hope she turns up at Latitude.

Was back at NAC last monday for the Pony Up night. GAPS are my new favourite act of the year (until the next band I see)! I loved the simplicity of what they performed coupled with some amazing graphics on screen. Altogether a fantastic evening

Maybe you should start a Desert Island Discs thread instead?
Never been able to do these top five lists. My favourite music changes with mood and circumstance, doesn't everyone's?
Even if I was on Desert Island Discs, I'd have to think: "Now what should I take that would be complementary to solitary island life?" I'd probably take some symphonies I'd never listened too rather than three minute pop classics I had.
I think my luxury item would have to be morphine, or some sort of pain-killing opiate that might be at once useful and fun, depending on the dosage. I'm assuming it cannot be practical, like a fuelled helicopter....
As for a book, anything long and relatively impenetrable I guess? Hmmm, must give DIDs some more considered thought...

'Why not', and 'me too' in answer to the questions. And it always struck me as a bit unfair that if you like classical music you potentially get an hour per pick compared to a pop-picker's three minutes. However, as a Dead Head I would at least get a 30 minute plus version of Dark Star.

Yeah. I never understand people who pick 'Ever Fallen In Love' or something. I reckon I could hum and sing that tune in precisely 2m40s from memory without every having to hear it ever again. Whereas I could choose some enormous, dense instrumental peace and spend my time understanding it and hearing new elements and passages etc... even with no trained appreciation of what the heck I was listening to. Likewise Ayn Rand, Victo Hugo or Samuel Richardson would be immensely tedious but would while away more hours and at least yield more frustration, analysis and writing/toilet paper than say, Huckleberry Finn. That said, I also now know what book I'd take...
