As a former Vicarage Road season Ticket holder, I find it very hard to believe these girls come from Watford!
Not a band I am into, but I'd happily come along just for the forum meet up if others are going. And I have been famously wrong about RL's recommendations before!

Sorry- Woody, missed your second post as it was over the page.
The Wave Pictures would be more up my street. Would make for a great Forum meet up. Plus much easier to find one another in the Portland Arms than at The Junction.
Anyone else up for it?

Have booked for what is basically a Fall tribute band, but one that his led by his ex wife Brix plus Steve and Paul Hanley in the rhythm section, and other ex Fall on guitar.
On of the supports is Kill Pretty, which features the ex Fall drummer Mike Leigh, from the Dragnet Lp. Thing is, Kill Pretty's singer has just decided to call it a day, and so, to meet the commitment have asked the singer from the band I am, Andy T. to step in and do the gig.
It is going to be quite a weird evening.

Went to see New Pornographers last night at Shepherds Bush Empire. They were very good, cracking setlist too. Dan Bejar's songs were the best.
Thought I caught a glimpse of forum fave Born In The 50s during the support too, but then he disappeared so maybe I didn't.

I was at the front for Mini Mansions, used the facilities, and then couldn't be bothered to push my way back there and upset those standing behind me. Anyway, to concur, an excellent set, and hopefully we'll have another chance to see them next year; preferably in a large tent in Suffolk, at a similar hour, which they would be ideal for.

Not so much a gig, but saw Annie Mac at The Academy in Dublin last night. Not through choice I must add, but through sheer boredom of being confined to a hotel for the last three weeks.
It was as expected, full of Irish young uns shouting how 'Feckin great' and 'banging' this and that 'toon' was......
I quite enjoyed it really!

OK. SO....Daniel Kitson. He doesn't really do stand up anymore. Which would be a shame. If his all growed up jackanory thing wasnt so lovely & heartfelt & funny. Which it is. He seems to do so much. Almost all of which isnt recorded or documented anywhere. I HOPE this xmas show isnt like that . Coz it were great.
And just a few minutes ago, James Acaster did the funny here in MK. The last date of his tour. Am i the ONLY one who REALLY wants the wire podcast to be a real thing? Mr Acaster, NAthanial Metcalfe & David Trent? What isnt to love?

Went to see Catfish and The Bottlemen @ O2 Oxford on Monday night. They're still playing pretty much the same set as I first saw at Latitude and EOTR over a year ago. The new guitarist seems a definite downgrade from the original one. Didn't see the support act (Honeyblood) as I was still having dinner with my eldest who lives about 2 minutes walk away from the O2. Most strangely, it was the second visit in a row to the O2 Oxford that I've bumped into an ex-work (Slough) colleague, of a similar age to myself, watching an indie rock band.

What you would certainly call a mixed bag this week, tonight is Erasure, followed by the Manics doing Holy Bible tomorrow, and then Wednesday brings Brand New Heavies. Then onto the Blues k!tchen in Shoreditch on Saturday for a birthday meal for Mrs Elk, with a live set from the Old Dirty Brasstards (of Guilty Pleasures fame). I think by the time Christmas day comes I'll just be an exhausted mess. Especially as we've also got the Cure at Hammersmith next Tuesday!

So on Monday night, Erasure, absolutely fantastic, witnessing 14 top 20 singles, everyone singing, a proper party atmosphere. Pure pop magic.
Last night, a slightly bleaker affair, but the Manics were in fine form, Holy Bible start to finish, followed by a second set of singles and some from Futurology. I think they would be a fantastic choice for the Obelisk in 2015, I'd be intersted to see where they would appear though. Headliners, or sub?
