OK, so I could have just called it "the gigs thread" but I was feeling all nostalgic!
Tonight we are going to see Damon Albarn at RAH.
He was amazing at Latitude so really looking forwards to it, as is Mrs R who obvs missed out in July.

Enjoy Raffles, I would LOVE to see him again. We're going to the O2 (just 10 mins away from the house-how crazy is that?!) on Wednesday to see Jack White. So excited. Then we're going back early December to see War of the Worlds live again, it's such a great show.

We are standing downstairs. Im not a big fan, no. I mean.....all the work of Third Man Records is brilliant. He clearly loves vinyl. Its just......well, ive never been a big White Stripes fan. And his solo stuff is a bit.......blah......for me. But the lady likes him. So......here we are.

Brave-I can't cope with standing at concerts much anymore, it's a nice change to sit down. I've always been a big fan of all of his projects, and I've got a good feeling his solo material will be better live than recorded (which is often the case with most artists to be honest). But a sign of love is doing something your partner loves, even if you don't =)

OK. Last night i saw Jack White at the o2 enormodome. Here is a review of this. I will start by saying Manda wife loved it. And i am not the biggest fan. I like early white stripes. And a few tracks on the latest album are good. I also like what Mr White does with vinyl with his record company. OK....so....you have seen ghost world, right? You know the scene where Seymour (Steve Buccemi) and Enid (Thora Birch) are at the Blues Bar. And Seymour is LOVING the work of old school blues artist Fred Chatman. But the rest of the bar love the awful glitzy blues band Blueshammer? Well.....i think Jack White see's himself as the old school Chatman. But, i think he is turning into the 'glitzy' nu-Blues band. I found it VERY self indulgent. Which, i guess, would be fine if you liked the artist in question (say, if i was watching Sigur Ros, and they played an extended 20 minute version of, what manda would call 'ident music', i would LOVE it!), but as im not a fan, i found dull. Also, the sound was both sludgy and loud, but very quiet too. Odd. Still manda loved it. So it were worth it.

Got tickets for The National on Wednesday. But, familiar story, once again I am going to miss it as I have to go away. Really getting a bit p!ssed off about how often this happens hey, but what can you do?
Also, for the second time this autumn I will be arriving in a F1 Grand Prix city two days after the event! I really need to improve my timing.
Maybe next year, I should only book gigs on Grand Prix weekends.

Both TV on the Radio and Of Monsters and Men have just announced tours for the first part of next year. I'll try for tickets, but hopefully they will also both show up at Latitude next year.

So, living vicariously through the left-home children, 1The Elder & Younger went to Mac DeMarco last night....Elder got to get on stage and sing with him (something tintin did, I believe, on his European odyssey earlier this year) - still floating on air, prob for the foreseeable future. Seems like a really good guy, would go down well with the Latitude crowd (think he was at Reading this year)

Managed to get tickets today for The New Pornographers @ O2 Shepherds Bush next week and TV on the Radio @ The Roundhouse in February, so adding those to Catfish and the Bottlemen, The Cure, Nils Lofgren and Sleater-Kinney already bought and I've got a fair bit to look forward to while waiting for Summer festival announcements.

Going to see Lazy Sunny Afternoon up Laandan next week; we all love The Kinks, family music. If it's awful at least we can close our eyes and drift back to Hyde Park last summer...Ray Davies on top form. He'd be so great on Sunday lunchtime (or Thurs night like Tom Jones).
