Yeah, so glad one of the most serious issues facing Britain has finally been sorted.

As we all know, it's a temporary test and if enough stop buying it, they'll bring back in through the back door, so not sorted but a start. It is important. Don't get me started.

It's the right thing to do, long overdue, and I agree with it. But I'd debate its place as the first item on the news all day and here's why.
It was superb double-team publicity for News international from both The Sun and The Times - good work marketing/PR teams. It's almost as if hard copy sales were dwindling inexorably anyway, and with Page 3 freely available on the digital edition, it was a clever ruse to get the whole of the British media to drive a free high-profile value-add campaign to encourage readers to subscribe disgruntled Sun readers and even those that had forgotten their nostalgic love of all things tits, to the online edition. Funny that! It's like they thought about the whooole thing and just waited until ABC figures told them to push the button or something. Huh!
Whereas when I was young Page 3 stuck out like a sore thumb (two sore thumbs? too soon?), these days it's just a speck of spume in the ocean of skin out there. The traditional and varied arguments against still stand if one feels Page 3 is a gateway to misogyny, demeaning to women, a reflection of antiquated patriarchy, a daily kick to young girls' self-esteem, an encouragement for casual male contempt, a reinforcement of dangerous false body image etc... etc...
However. If Clare Short had got this done in the 80s when Page 3 was huge and the general background levels of sexual imagery were less visible it would have been MASSIVE news. Now it is certainly symbolic of change, but somehow also seems to be pissing in the strong wind of female sexual exploitation that can be seen and heard on every mainstream or independent media outlet you care to shake something at/to.

As I said they never stopped on the digital edition. It just gave it loads of publicity. And stirred the Star up. Ho hum.
Sun quote: "FURTHER to recent reports in all other media outlets, we would like to clarify that on Page 3 of today's Sun is a picture of Nicole, 22, from Bournemouth. We would like to apologise on behalf of the print and broadcast journalists who have spent the last two days talking and writing about us."
