Saddened to see that news this morning.
One of the best hearted in Politics, he was in for the right intentions. I will share the same sadness for Vince Cable when the awful day comes.
A true loss for good in Britain today.

Quite sobering (literally) given how young he was.
Very sad, especially with his kid still being so young.

Jonah Lomu
Such a lovely, lovely bloke (he helped coach some Lancs U11s run by old school mate one trip, totally of his own volition) but such a fearsome thing on the pitch.
Too young, RIP

David Bowie, one of the hardest working people in music. Just released a new album on Friday (his birthday) whilst battling cancer. An inspiration to us all.

Greatly saddened. Saw him in the the 80s, he was perfection. My ex-sister-in-law worked with him briefly, said he was charming.

One of the true greats. And his new album is as good as anything he's done for decades. Very sad.

Very, very sad. Got his new album only yesterday and was thinking how beautiful it is and now so poignant, he will be sorely missed

NO one hates Bowie, do they? ANYONE who is any good has Bowie influence in them. Amazingly some people I know are moaning about the amount of attention this has garnered both on the tv and in the press. Im not moaning about all the coverage per se. And all this outpouring, i believe, is fully in keeping with the genius of his work. But.....he WAS only one man. Admittedly a genius man. But still.....there are wars on etc... It's kinda a little bit like....when Princess Di died, there was this outpouring of sadness. And it was.....kinda nauseating. True, i do not care for the royal family, so maybe felt a liitle more....nauseated than i do now. But....you know.....he was a man that, im sure, a lot of people did not know. So.....yeah. Im not sure what im trying to say....He WAS a genius. It IS that he has died, seemingly when he was entering a fruitful period for his 'art'. But....refugee's are still dying in the sea. Americans still wanna vote Mr farty Trump as president. ISIS wanna kill us all..... yeah. Im a moany bastard.

^ What Moz says about parallels of when Princess Di kicked it. The breadth of coverage in the news is okay, it's the gushing nature of some of it that's OTT.
Just by way of thought, given all of the points Moz rightly makes about world problems, does anyone else think the following might be a little excessive (email in my inbox not too long ago)?
"This week David Bowie passed away. Fans around the world have been remembering and celebrating his incredible life.
Many people have started petitions on Change.org with ideas of how the world could honour Bowie. Here are a few of the most popular petitions from fans so far:
Simon is asking the Bank of England to feature Bowie on the new £20 note. Support his petition here. Natalie would like the Royal Mail to feature David Bowie on a stamp. Support her petition here. Liz believes the International Astronomical Union should name the next star after David Bowie. Support her petition here. Daniel wants Mars to be renamed after David Bowie. Support his petition here. From stars to stamps, banknotes to planets -- these are just some of the ways fans would like to see their hero remembered.
Thank you, Katherine and the UK Change.org team."

Loving this!!! Yeah but, colonising Mars is a lofty goal, colonising David Bowie sounds like a fungal infection. Also the outpouring of grief is no where near as sickening as for Princess Diana, more like Michael Jackson, but without the uneasiness over the child sex allegations. Here's looking forward to more than 13 Bowie songs in the top 40 chart this week.

It's nothing like the Princess Di shit.
I am no more than a casual Bowie fan (though I loved his new album a soon as I heard it) but he is unquestionably one of the most significant presences in popular culture of our lifetime, and is one of those rare people who spans both popular and critical acclaim
I don't think the reaction over the top at all.

Don't compare musicians, especially both of those. Both hugely gifted! Overated??? Pfft!
