quick (possibly irrelevant) aside, but I'm seeing lots of banner advertising tailored, I know online for EOTR tickets. is it selling?
think it's a pretty good, but not great, line up this year (and I desperately wish I was going regardless). even though it's not you cup of strong vodka Geof, Green Man is an excellent competition line up this year, particularly for the 'trad' EOTR types. and i'm not saying this just 'cos logistics are forcing me to GM rather than EOTR - if there were no logistics issues I'd have EOTR earlybirds per usual, just be enviously looking at GM!

conversly, logistics are forcing us to goto EOTR rather than Green Man, which we would MUCH rather go to. But, due to the quagmire nature of GM when a wee drop of rain falls, we cant really take the wee bairn. And now i have to run the business over that weekend (retrobloke.com & retrogames.co.uk . Please do tell your friends) due to the boss being on holiday.
Bought tickets today. Line up is solid if unspectacular. But we like EOTR and know we will have a nice time. And we wanted to do another festival other than the 'tude. ITs just a shamne that GM has the best line up this year......

Just to be clear - I wish I could go to Green Man as well - It is a very good line-up, just prefer EOTRs and, admittedly to a slightly lesser extent so far, Latitudes.

Why? What happened? Im intrigued (Also, any hints & tips to coping would be good, thanks). Originally, we were gonna wait until after Latitude to see how we cope. But....you know....after last year missing all festivals, I think we thought 'fuck it'.

Green Man is looking good this year and would love to give it a try. Problem is Thomas is not at school yet so I have great difficulty taking time off during school holiday, too many other people already wanting to and have first dibs as they have children.

Beautiful Days looks a good and fun line-up. I cannot stand the levellers, so would never go and give them my hard earned coin. Which is a shame, as some of the line ups have been quite good. Ah well, cest la vie.

i think i just underestimated how much impact having a baby there would have. i guess i maybe naively thought i'd be able to go about our business as normal but everything just took so long. small things like finding shelter from the sun, nappy changes, feeds, clothes changes etc just seemed to take ages and i think i struggled missing out on acts for those reasons.
everytime we went to the baby changing area in the kids fields there were mums crying and just looking mega stressed. if im honest i think i was pretty selfish as i went to see acts with friends whilst my girlfriend spent a lot of time back at the tent with the baby and i really regret that. my biggest recommendation would be to tackle it all as a team, even if it means missing out on some of your favourite acts.

I'm with Maddix, we were too selfish to bring the kids until they were 12/13. It's our weekend and to spend all that money and look after little uns doesn't make sense in my eyes. Sometimes I see the really little kids and think they really don't wanna be here. Each to there own we just used these weekends to relax and leave the kids with grandparents. I know some grandparents may not be so helpful which can make the decision difficult. Even at 12 Shannon flaked on the last night I sat in our tent with her playing cards missing Nick Cave so Di could watch the Gossip. Still not got over that lol

I think the twins were 8 for our first year. They totally loved it, but I defo missed out on a lot of stuff, especially late night. And I have always bought them on my own. Couldn't imagine bringing a baby on my own! Even at 8, the twins were a dab hand at tent pitching, which helped enormously.
By the time they were 11 or 12, it was easy cos I could let them off on their own for periods. And the good think about them starting earlier is by then, they were very self confident about finding their own away around.
It also helps that they now know so may Billes and Forumers so they are never far from a friend. Many's the time I have thought I'd lost them when I bumped into someone from the forum to be told- "if you're looking for your girls- I've just been with them on the front barrier of such and such stage"

Thanks Maddix, Wayne & Raffles for the input. All food for thought. Maddix - I think I/we had already resigned ourselves to not doing as much as we usually do & missing som ethings we wanna see. And we are most likely gonna be together to deal with what needs doing. So that is cool. The picture you paint of mums in tears at the changing area sounds horrific though! Is it, like, grim or something? Did you camp in family camping? What are the additional facilities there if you did? Wayne - I understand not taking yr kids with you. I think, when Layla is a little older, we are gonna leave her with grandparents for one festival a year, so we can go 'mad' (which, in all likelihood, will mean catching up with sleep & missing stuff). This year, its a bit tricky, what with the minor-but-if-triggered-could-be-potentially-fatal issue Layla has (which we will have a clearer indication as to the seriousness of her potential Addisons in a fortnight, when we go back to hospital for another operation. Thankfully planned & not urgent), I think we both feel she should be with us, just in case. Course, in time, we will worry less..... Raffles - I think thats one of the reason why we wanna take Layla to a festival. Festivals are such a big part of my & manda's life that we want her to be used to & love the festival environment. So she can love them as much as we do.

they wern't crying because of that area moz, i think more it was a place to go when they'd had enough and to kinda let it all out i guess.
we didn't do family camping so i can't comment on that.
i'd really convinced myself it would all be fine but i really ended up regretting the decision.

Definitely worth camping in Family, Moz. The toilets especially are way better- proper porcelain WCs, sinks etc and baby change facilities. Plus direct access to the Kids zone. And, easier to sleep at night cos it is generally quieter.

We've got tickets to GM already, and I think it is looking likely that we'll probably do EOTR as well which leaves Latitude as a probable day ticket only.
We have problems logistically with both Latitude and EOTR and Latitude with Mrs Oapdub being a teacher, but EOTR is a way better line up for our tastes - just will need to leave about 9pm on the Sunday night. A shame with Latitude being on our doorstep, but we don't decide which festival to go to based on distance to travel!

Now, due to taking too long to decide, my boss has now booked holiday for 2 weeks. So it's all academic now. No biggie.

Has anyone tried Bluedot Festival? Line up looks way better than Latitude this year so thought it might be a good alternative.

Anyone ever been to Boomtown?
If so, is it as scuzzy as I suspect?
