Casting around for another festival to help occupy me this summer, I've just noticed that Truck is not the same weekend as Latitude this year. And as its only about an hour's drive away from me, and last year's line-up was a good one, I'm already sorely tempted. No 2017 line-up yet, but it's apparently imminent. Has anyone here been to it in recent years / heard anything about it, etc. I've never been, but am even more local to it and know lots of people who have been and the feedback is consistently good. You can judge the music from the lineups online, but I like it and I have been tempted in the past, even if I have always ended up elsewhere. People say the atmo is good, with a range of age groups attending. A more local crowd than bigger festivals, so there's a degree of turning up after work on Friday and leaving on Sunday. And cheap compared to Lat. Some online reviews have said the Barn stage, which is literally a barn, can be be too small for some of the acts there, but can't say that puts me off much. In fact I also am contemplating going this year (prolly in addition to Lat, but all in the air at present), so I'd rather you didn't tell anyone about it until I have bought tickets ... Going for the first time this year, too as I can't do Latitude this year I happen to know the 3 headliners, and they're pretty impressive (especially 1)

So as always at this time of year (whilst suffering the interminable wait for Latitude announcements) me and Mrs V start casting our eyes over other line ups to fill our 2nd & 3rd slots over the summer and just spotted the Standen Calling initial line up which peaked our interest.
So anyone on here been to Standon and if so what's it like as a festival?

So anyone on here been to Standon and if so what's it like as a festival? So anyone on here been to Standon and if so what's it like as a festival? We did Standon about 3 years ago and it was fun. It looks good this year and has also added comedy which was a bit lacking....it still had the country fete (not sure if the dog show is still on the line up....) feel then but I think it has expanded a tad since then. Nice and laid back and not too crowded although part of the campsite was on a hill so you may want to avoid that bit and you have to drag your kit down a short but steep hill to get in and of course reverse that on the way out. Some of the campsite was right behind one of the marquees too so worth checking out a map before you get there. I'm certainly pondering it again for this year as I reckon there is enough on to keep me amused.

Thanks cmouse
Must say from what we've read about it, it does look kind of cozy and laid back. Also the line up is already looking promising (to us anyway).
Just need EOTR and Latitude to announce so we can finally decide.

And some good stuff further down, considering the size of the festival (Cabbage, All Them Witches) @moz - fair enough, but I am happy with The Libertines myself, even if they will be everywhere this summer. Beat The 1975 (or LDR who I dread more than The 1975) for me. Not that I was a big fan 15 yrs ago, but the 2015 album is good (to my ears) and I am sure they will be a party. Anyway, I have bought tickets. Just need Lat to announce... [insert yet another "seems really stupid to announce late so everyone buys tickets elsewhere, and how am I gonna persuade people when they can't see the lineup" comment here]

just why HAVE festivals started to announce their line up so early? Time was, in my day (old man alert), no one announced their line ups till april time. Its now getting earlier & earlier, in a few years time, they will announce the line up of a festival a few weeks before the year befores has happened! or something.....
Anyways, as others now announce in February, the 'tude should really do the same. Just to compete with tickets sales. We all (well, I no longer do) do not have limitless honk to buy 5/6 festivals a year.....

I agree - it's daft of latitude to wait so late.
We aim to go to 2 or 3 festivals a year out of a short list of about 6 so there's already a 50% chance of latitude missing out on our money. Given we base our decision 75% on line up, the late announcement starts to swing our decision away (soft spot for lartitude not withstanding).
I can't believe we're the only ones who think like this so they must be reducing their potential customer base.

(soft spot for lartitude not withstanding). I think Latitude has a reputation of being too posh already, without the new name. ;p

That's a pretty good initial line up. Will keep an eye on that and see what else is added. I'm hoping Latitude up their game from last year so will make it a no brainer.

Hopefully the good stuff further down will expand, and there are some hidden gems in there already that I don't yet know.

end of the road headliners seem a little weaker than normal to me but that is one great undercard theyve announced today.

well they had us at The Jesus and Mary Chain and Ultimate Painting.
So Lartitude (I'm trade marking this now) is going to have to put some effort to attract our money this year

Yeah......not sure what's propelled Mac DeMarco from not even headlining the Garden stage two years ago to the top of the bill, especially as Father John Misty is getting a bit of a bump himself.....
....but I keep finding good things.............and not just Shovels & Rope hidden away at the bottom of the bill!

Eotr is solid, if a little unspectacular. Wonder who the 3rd headliner will be. I know Sigur Ros are doing gigs in September (i have my ticket). Maybe they are waiting till that tour is sold out, before being announced?

Like Nick Cave - their dates seem too far after EOTR to be tied in.
Could well be someone we don't even know is releasing a new album this year yet. And being EOTR - there may even be a 4th or 5th headliner!

Although not a Thursday headliner on the main stage like last year, from their twitter account: 'Not this year, Stevie. Woods stage will open on Friday.'
