Re Field Day
Given the weather forecast for this weekend, does anyone have any idea from previous experience at Vic Park how muddy it is likely to get by Sun night. Are we talking battered trainers/ Converses, lightweight walking boots, or full on wellies territory?

1The Younger is off to Holland to Down The Rabbit Hole Festival in a couple of weeks - looks pretty good, esp as KIng Gizzard added. Can't remember if it was £60 or £90 for the weekend.

Really enjoyed Field Day Sunday. A much nicer vibe than I expected based on other outdoor London events I have been to. Weather promised to be foul but actually it held out- we only had one heavy downpour and we were in a tent at that time so we were fine. It was muddy, but not unmanageably so.
Started with Tangerines who were really good. BITF thought their parents must have had a good Velvet Underground collection. I’d have said more like Lloyd Cole & the Commotions meets Lynyrd Skynyrd!
Saw first three songs of Parquet Courts. Had been disappointed with them at Latitude last time I saw them, but BITF persuaded me to give them another go. If anything, they were even worse- no chemistry with a big crowd whatsoever. So I headed off to…
Steve Mason: also v good though the sound in his tent was a bit muddy. He’s one of those guys who never lets you down (also bumped into him in the VIP zone).
Thurston Moore did his usual (these days) Ragged Glory era Neil Young impression. I love his stuff, but better in a more intimate setting.
Caught first three songs of Blossom cos it was convenient . Catchy indie-pop stuff- more XFM than Radio 6. Not really my thing but the crowd seemed to like it and I thought they were OK.
Ben Watts with Bernard Butler played in the really small tent and were highlight of the day so far- lovely stuff.
Then to the much anticipated Avalanches. What a disappointment. Like a really amateur club DJ set. Wish I’d missed them to have something to eat cos as it was I had to forego Moon Due whilst queuing for some paella and, on reflection, I wish I’d seen them instead.
Finished with PJ Harvey as main stage headliner. She was simply a class above everything else all day. Magnificent. They really should get her to headline Latitude- would be perfect.
Overall, a really nice way to spend a Sunday, and I’ll defo be back.

Been enjoying the reviews of Field Day here and elsewhere, nearly booked tickets for the Sunday and for Neil Young on the Sunday until I ealised we would be on the boat to Brittany!
Have noticed EotR announcing Saturady Garden Stage headliner, more bands and stage splits next week, so will keep an eye out.
Festivals in general, saw there was an article claiming 1 in 10 festivals due to go bust, although some commentators think that is an exaggeration but wondering how generally ticket sales are going, Latitude giving stage splits very early. Also, being on O2 I get various offers (priorities they call them), one currently is for T in the Park and is buy one get one free, does not sound as if their sales can be going very well!
Anyway, back to the decent but cheap wine and meals outdoors for another week and half.

I saw that article too: www.theguardian.com/business/2016/jun/13/festival-suffer-crowded-fieldIt feels like the prophets of doom have been suggesting problems for a number of years now, and they have yet to substantially materialise. The margins are pretty small however; it wouldn't take much for some festivals to get in all kinds of difficulties...

They put on some amazing gigs over the years, and it is a real shame that incompetence over the weekenders has dragged down that side of the business, but they broke the first law of promoting gigs/festivals and failed to look after both customers and bands.

I'm still unsure whether I should pack a snorkel for Glastonbury or not... I have a fb friend who is onsite already (her company is something to do with production) and apparently it is wet. Very wet.

Very wet. a former Queenly administrator of the old forum has posted some similarly "flowing" youtube pics over the past couple of days. Hopefully it starts drying from now (#)

Geez Glastonbury was a tough one...the 7 hour queue to get in the campervan fields made our 3 hours into lat last year seem easy and putting up an awning in the dark when you are tired and hungry is not fun.
Worse conditions than our first in 2011 and i didnt see as much as i wanted becoz of ground conditions and sore toes (didnt like being confined to wellies)
However highlights were The Drystones, Half Moon Run, Adele, Bears Den and Bat for lashes
Sorry Riverlodge..i didnt see Ezra....it was treacherous at the park this year.

Despite the mud, this year had to go down as the top Glastonbury for me. I missed the queues as got there tues night! Just PJ Harvey and Underworld was worth the tiredness on Monday.

My first Glasto and it definitely took me a while to get into it.
As much as the mud was out of anyone's control, had it been Latitude we'd have all been bitching and moaning that there weren't more woodchips and boards put down in dangerous areas or that the site is laid out in a way which guarantees the most horrendous bottle necks (see the 2011? bridge complaints at Latitude). On the Friday and Sunday I gave up trying to see much as it was just too much effort to trek betweem stages and I couldn't really enjoy it when I got there anyway.
Overall, I think, even regardless of the mud, I failed to see the magic that my friends insist the festival can produce. The late night instalations - Block 9, Arcadia, the Common etc. - are pretty amazing, but there was so much drum and bass and UK garage that I quickly got tired of them and could barely tell them apart. The Bowie/Prince tributes which I was hoping would be a focal point of a fairly weak lineup but it was all very half-hearted - I thought they were going to play Bowie's 2000 set in full which would have been amazing even at a quieter time.
