i hate moving. Which, as we were renting privately, we did quite a bit. Now, with a all growed up mortgage, we will move less. I hope.

had a week away. it was in a land full of SNP posters, where the 'Charles Kennedy for the Highlands' poster was defaced in so many appropriate ways.

Somethings just leave me dumbfounded, but then again perhaps I take music too seriously and expect everyone else too. Today I was talking to one of the trainees in our firm, she asked me what I was up to this weekend. 'Seeing Tricky in Brighton' I replied. 'What is that?' was her question. 'ermm, well he's a singer/musician' 'never heard of him' 'He was originally in Massive Attack'I managed to say. Her reply? 'No, never heard of them'!!!!!!!

I guess if she's a trainee, then neither Tricky nor Massive Attack have really had any sort of mainstream public profile since she was at pre- school nursery.
You're getting old, mate!

Before I got back into vinyl a few years back (when my turntable was out of action) one of my kids once asked "dad, when can we play some of those big black CDs?"

It does make me feel old when I get answers like that. Part of the problem though is probably that I spend too much time on music/festival/hi-fi forums so just assume that everyone knows these sorts of artists. It wasn't as if I had chosen one of our more esoteric gigs but something I thought was fairly mainstream!

While, outdoors, I have been asked to help overnight tomorrow for my youth organisation's camp after someone wimped out. Single figure temperatures overnight and dozens of them all day on Sunday, what's not to like?
Still, good to get the camping stuff out, esp as we're posh camping this year (gifted, what can I tell you).
Mr1 sees it as end of days. We shall see.

NEVER go to an event promoted by AEG Live. They are useless. They do not care about your custom. Just as long as you pay the big monies for the tickets, any dissatisfaction you have will be ignored, you will be blocked on the twitters for asking for some contact details and you will be fobbed off by the ticket agency who sell the tickets for AEG Live (who, coincidentally enough, are owned by AEG live too).....
That is all.

Just back from 3 days at the European Games in Baku.
I was pleasantly surmised how nice Baku was- hard to believe you were in a Muslim country during Ramadan judging by the party atmosphere (and the short skirts!). And whilst you wouldn't want to swim in the Caspian sea, the waterfront boulevard was delightful on the balmy summer evenings. Over 40 degrees during the day though. Got a bit burnt.
Ok- so it was not really elite sport, but it was lot of fun. Managed to get to most of the venues and saw plenty of supposedly minority sports such as 3-on-3 single half court basket ball and beach soccer. Best event was Poland v Serbia in the Volleyball (not sure why the Amazonian polish team needed so much make up!) but probably the best single moment was when Azerbaijan's favourite judo star scored a spectacular ippon to win his bout to the rapturous reception of a highly partisan home crowd.
Managed to get into the boxing for Nicola Adams winning gold but ended up watching it on a big screen in the media room back stage because my accreditation card wouldn't let me into the seating area! (silly me- could have bought a ticket for £3!)
Shame that Azerbaijan is so awkward to get to (long, infrequent expensive flights, visas etc) because it would make a great city break if you like that east meets west kind of thing and want an alternative to Istanbul.

Sounds like a proper experience, Raffles.
Of course it being sunny and warm (as ever!) in Suffolk, I have spent the last two days cleaning old rubbish stuff from the loft and further reaches of shelving to dump on the unsuspecting public sell to lucky punters at a Car Boot sale tomorrow. Hoping to pay off both the 1 Offspring's student loans with the proceeds. Fingers crossed, eh?

Wow, Kerry, you must have a lot of old rubbish highly desirable stuff in your attic if you're going to raise that much from the unsuspecting public all those lucky buyers

Now that is what I call an announcement! Excellent news, Jan - that first scan is quite a game-changer, isn't it?
Oh, and if you thought people had a lot of opinions on music, babies and child wrangling rearing are off the scale.

Forgive my French. Well.....Anglo-Saxon English. But....Anglian Water are fucking useless. They are like the AEG Live of water companies.
(OK. This initial vent of frustration may have been a little harsh. At least they communicate promptly...)

I just got my module results from the OU (If you want to avoid huge debts study with the OU)
I missed out on a grade 2 pass by 4pc. I probably should have drunk less and studied more during the revision period.
In the grand scheme of things a grade 3 pass is sufficient to secure me a lower second degree with honours in mathematics.
I just need to do one more year of anything to finish, so I'm doing music cos I've had enough maths for several lifetimes.
This is good news, but if I ever think of studying for another degree, someone shoot me.
