Oh dear we are a sickly bunch.....I hope everyone's health improves soon! A lot of people I know seem to be having a bit of a rough January.

Woooohooooo! Stone arrived last night after three days.
Bleeding heck. That's a ridiculously medieval thing to have go through.
Hurray!

Ouchkabibble. I think the alternative is surgeons swinging around light sabres like I imagine they did in at least one of the Star Wars movies. But I digress. Hope you're not having to exclude too many things from your diet now. Asparagus, chocolate and rhubarb were on a watch list for a friend, one of which is essential fodder in the 1 household. Here's health to you!
And how is the other patient?

If you read enough, then you pretty much have to exclude and add everything to your diet. I already drink a lot of water. I personally think that it's the massive number of supplements I've been taking to try and make my joints better (not those kind of joints...)

Here's health to you! And how is the other patient? Making slow but steady progress thank you. I now don't wake up in pain til about 5am whereas previously it was about 3, sometimes as early as 2am. And I'm fine during the day.
One weird side effect. You know how sometimes you wake up in the night and have no idea what time it is. You look at your clock and think, "Yippee, I've still got hours of sleep to go" or, "Oh no, I've only got an hour to go" etc. well I wake up at, say 5am and think "Yippee, I've only got an hour or so to go!" This is nearly as unnatural as state for me as is the abstinence.

exactly what sort of drugs are you on?

I think the problem is the drug of choice I'm not on, actually
Friday is always the hardest night to abstain. But still going strong (for now)

right, so today me & mrs RL did 'furniture shopping'. yup, me too.
anyway, we got back late and had leftover casserole reheated (a lot better than it sounds) and have since sat by the fire looking at how ridiculously expensive ANY furniture is. we are still speaking.
so, opened a good Vacqueyras which has been going down nicely, and tried 'background music' to keep things civil. Gravenhurst went down remarkably well (particularly with the obvious sad story), as did Admiral Fallow, but we then got into disagreements part way through Rough Trade / EOTR highlights CD. Cate le Bon, Wave Pictures - no problem. THEN Perfume Genius (who Mrs RL has seen & liked twice) results in complaints. Worse still " I really don't like this" to Mark Kozalek.
Exactly where do I go from here? What am I doing wrong (apart from breathing)?

good day.
went on my first job interview (i.e. as a candidate, not a 'griller') for the best part of a decade. probably won't get the job but there clearly are opportunities out there and feel more optimistic about getting into a positive working environment.
feel like I'm taking real steps at putting some sh1t behind me.

I also had a job interview just recently.
Worked for the same company for 29 years, but after a massive merger and reorganisation, many of the senior positions were sort of abolished and we all had the opportunity to apply for new positions on the new structure.
I was up against three other candidates for a role I decided I would apply for. Not necessarily my perfect job, but an important position I felt I had to go for.
Well weird being interviewed seriously for the first time in 30 years, by a panel which included an HR rep young enough to be my daughter.

Can I just take a minute of your time to wax lyrical about Harry Potter World? I know it's been open for 3 years, but this was our first visit. Went with the faamerley yesterday and it was an excellent day. Hours of nerdish homage to the films that represent the books we read together. Really well set out, ridiculously full of so much filmbuffery. And yes, I did get a wand. (I may be forced to give it to my nephew, though)

After being informed my presence is required at yet more meetings that have very little point I am now applying for any job that sounds even remotely more interesting than my current role. The only condition I will apply is that they honour the holiday I already have booked ...ie Latitude and EOTR :-D

Brilliant, fiveuke. I shall practice, although it'll prob end up being more expecto patronum; as much as I dislike some acts (*cough* Rudimental *cough*) I really don't need anything other than that shield of positive energy. Of course if I don't bring the wand, we'll try and find something akin to that sweaty tent with Jungle and Hall & Oates.....

Today is a good day, as well as being the weekend I have managed to get tickets for The Trial at The Young Vic with Rory Kinear. Had to wait 90 mins in the 'queue' on their webpage but it will be worth it!

Inspired by the action on here I have applied for a job that I'd actually really like (rather than pays more/it might be better than here...) so hoping for at least an interview! I don't think I fit into the usual demographic for the role even though I have something to show for everything they listed in the job spec so I'll just have to wait and see.
Anyone else got any good news?

Very excited:
Finally confirmed all the bookings for our two week California/ Arizona road trip. With overnight stops in:
San Francisco Monterey San Simeon Santa Barbara LA- Marina del Rey (3 days) Anahiem (Disneyland- for the girls- obvs!) Joshua Tree National Park Sedona National Park Grand Canyon (hotel right on the south rim!) Phoenix
Have really pulled the stops out using airmails, Hilton Honours points, Best Western Frequent Traveller card etc etc I have managed to bring the whole thing (hotels, car and flights) in for less than one weeks holiday in Italy cost last year!
Can't wait
