Why are they bothering with Orbital and Khruangbin? Except for a few stragglers, any Latitude attendee who's into alternative music stopped going years ago.

When do we think the next wave will be announced?, I know nobodies forcing me to go but what an utterly boring lineup. I have high hopes that any undercards and the bbc sounds or 6 music tent will save this!. Im not even sure the BBC are involved anymore?!? I saw a tweet from Jayne Middlemiss saying Virgin Radio are gonna be broadcasting from the weekend. Which would, I assume, mean no BBC anymore?!?

I mean, I've got a soft spot for Keane so I'm happy with that, Duran Duran will be great and Kasabian will bring the party. Have never seen London Grammar so definitely interested. Orbital will be great.
Aside from the obvious outliers on that list it is of course very Radio 2 (or Virgin friendly apparently in this case) but I guess we all knew that the festival had to change to survive. It is a bit sad but I guess (to use a phrase I detest) it is what it is.
We'll still go as the weekend is one of the highlights of our year. Tickets are bloody expensive though!

Which is nice.

The Barclaycard/Facebook crowd seem to think the price has gone up despite their 10% discount - I can’t see the price - it was already eye-wateringly expensive (how can it be very nearly Glasto price?).
Not exactly feeling positive about this, might be our first time not going since 2009. Even our die-hard twenty-somethings and friends (gone since children, v loyal) are discussing going elsewhere.
🙁

I haven't seen a lineup announcement go down this badly before for the festival, I suppose the one hope is they see this reaction and then pad it out massively with some decent names in the new year. With there only 14 names on there and no stage splits too there's evidently a lot more to add into it and opportunity to make it stand out a bit more. The balls very much in their court

On all the ‘who would you like to headline in 2024’questionnaires they sent out,I’d be interested to see how many times the headliner’s names were mentioned, if at all…

Exactly what I thought when I saw the first line-up drop. Khruangbin in particular, that feels like a real blast from better years long gone by. For the price, that's a zero-to-get-excited-about announcement. I mean, as Kerry - I think - pointed out, prices aren't too shy of Glastonbury, who's going to Latitude now, really struggling to understand the target demographic, feels all over the place.

I don't think it's that hard to understand. Middle-class families are going. Britain has a lot of them, which is why it sold out this year. Despite inflation and everything else, there are still plenty of people who can afford to fork out for it, and the lineup reflects the audience.
Latitude was always a bit comfortable to attract an edgy, alternative crowd and it's had to move away from the incredibly wide diversity of arts and international influences as they presumably didn't bring in more punters. Except for Keane's genuine blandness (I already found them annoying when I saw them last in 2006) I don't think there's anything terribly wrong with the lineup so far. Perhaps the problem is that it's announced the family-friendly, brand recognition artists in one go and will hopefully diversify in future announcements. If you singled out the same less interesting acts from 2023, it also wouldn't look great, and yet there was also a really decent undercard this year which, if I remember correctly, was one of the best received lineups in recent years.
I'm not saying Latitude is the festival we started going to, but it's still the best site in the UK (in my opinion) and offers an experience that most others don't. It's also up against a lot more competition, has squeezed profit margins and is fighting over a smaller pool of credible headliners and big acts.
I'm not excited about the lineup, especially as I'll be coming from Spain just for this, but I'm kind of surprised that there's so much doom and gloom here. Et tu, Kerry!?

I'm not excited about the lineup, especially as I'll be coming from Spain just for this, but I'm kind of surprised that there's so much doom and gloom here. I'm not surprised! We are in the part of the year where we are all waiting for initial line-up announcements for festivals we are either attending or thinking of attending, and expecting / hoping to be excited by those annoucements. While year-on-year for several years, when I was a regular attendee, I got this from Latitude. What you get from them now has little, and in my case, nothing to excite; most of this announcement being acts that have been around for years, and if you haven't already seen them, its unlikely that you haven't had the chance to do so. What's entirely lacking from this announcement is any act who are infrequent visitors to the UK or indeed any act that has emerged in the last 5 years or so and isn't just a footnote at the bottom of the poster; and it didn't used to be like that. So the hoped for excitement for the arrival of something you have previously known and loved turns out to be a soggy, damp squib and it's doom and gloom as to whether that something you loved will ever be the same again or is it now lost forever.

Caught The Mary Wallopers on the Hootenanny and I think they'll be a lot of fun I saw their social media saying day tickets would be released in the new year and they only normally do that with day splits and a few more acts so could imagine a few more names (maybe tent headliners/Obelisk openers) before the end of January

I could live with the weaker lineup if it wasn't for the crowd that it attracts. I was so excited about seeing Metronomy but nobody in the audience gave a shit, it was just a holding area for people wanting to video Common People on their phone. Same with Dry Cleaning, nobody except for the a few of the hardcore at the very front got it. It's just not fun.
2017 is the only year I have missed in ten years but I just can't bring myself to do another long weekend of skirting around people's picnic blankets.
Deer Shed and Bearded Theory look good.

Primavera Sound supposedly has a very knowledgeable audience when it comes to the music, but I've still had a much nicer experience with Latitude people in the 15ish years I've been going to both. I know what you mean about atmosphere at gigs being important, but I don't think the Latitude audience has changed that much byond the increase in families, who don't tend to be the ones at the front of gigs. Having said that, I hope the next lineup announcement will be more interesting for everyone - if such a thing is possible.

Looks to be a few announcements coming up for other festivals around the same time, as it needs a lot of padding out its worth keeping an eye out for who's about when - Idles and Wet Leg are names that have been banded around who I could definitely see playing
