The Instagram Reading festival anoucement " we heard you the 1975 will now be headlining Reading don't say we never treat you" (Rage against the machine have pulled out) has not gone down to well looking at the comments ! From a friend of mine: Last time The 1975 were on at Reading, I went to see The Chats headline The Pit. This was their introduction: “G’Day, we’re The Chats from Western Australia. Thanks for coming to see us rather than The 1975. We’re way better than those cunts!”. They were right. I really don't understand the Reading line-up these days. Appreciate is has always (for the last 30 years at least) been a more young person oriented line-up, and it has always had some big hip hop acts on the main stage, but there is loads of stuff that is just pop acts and that was never the case at Reading, not unless you include the time Daphne and Celeste played anyway.....

Back from Green Man. Due to weather being not as hot (and not rainy either!) and it being much more spaced out (and me being more chilled about missing bands), i/we had a bloody great time! So much so that we will be getting early bird tickets if we can.
Some thoughts on the weekend.
Dry Cleaning are bloody ace, arnt they? As are Pip Blom. Michael Kiwanuka was pretty special. I obviously missed Low, but found Public Service Broadcasting doing their stuff from 'Every Valley' very emotional, especially being so close to Blaenavon. Compost toilets all over the site are a good thing (as are lady urinals), but PLEASE put some sort of wall up at all of these. Having a piss at the men's urinals and watching turds fall into a wheelie bin was......interesting? Food is fucking expensive. But, apart from the usually reliable and dependable pizza/pasta place, was filling and tasty. Esp. the gyoza dumplings. And the scotch eggs at the stall near the red bus. Didn't encounter one 'arsehole' all weekend. The only spot of aggro I saw was some security guard on security guard argy bargy which almost kicked off. Oh and Jonathan Ross walked passed me after the burning of the Green Man.
It's a lovely place. I miss it.
Edit : should add...I didn't see her/them due to life, but Lucy Gooch sounded utterly beautiful.

I'll prob give some more considered thoughts in due course, but Green Man was bloody ace. It always is, so no great surprise, but reassuring that it delivered once again.
My brain is not at the races today though, always the same after 4 days of sensory overload, so that shouldn't surprise me either, but here we are.....

Green Man 22 Definitely my favourite GM yet.
My own highlights were Planning To Rock Mandrake Handshake Public Service Broadcasting Sophie Jamieson Katherine Priddy Michael Kiwanuka
I was gutted to miss most of the BCNR set because what I did see looked and sounded pretty stunning
I hadn’t been expecting much from Beach House but was pretty blown away.
Surprise find - Group Listening - hadn’t intended to see but found myself in the Walled Garden and stayed for the whole set.
A bit disappointed with Kraftwerk but worth seeing for the experience
General Positives Friendly friendly people I had forgotten how accessible everything is. It was great being able to just nip back to the tent and grab extra supplies or dump excess stuff.
The food and drink concessions were hardly ever crowded, in fact the bars were deserted at times.
Negatives (minor niggles) Seemed to be more families and more families meant bigger tents so less room. I intentionally kept my guy rope tight to my tent but still the neighbour’s tent was pitched across it making it bloody difficult to take down. And when I’d packed my trolley Monday morning I couldn’t get it out as there were insufficient gaps between the tents. That said it was a load less noisy at night than Latitude (apart from people snoring).
Also I did get shouldered out the way at the barrier in the Far Out by a dad wanting to place his kid on the barrier. Kid protested so much that in the end dad relented and had to back off. I get that having kids doesn’t mean you lose your passion for music but sacrifices go with the territory I’m afraid - been there done that.
But all in all a fantastic weekend - If GM send one of those surveys out asking for suggestions this year I would struggle to think of a single thing I’d change!

Anyone else had the witness appeal email from EOTR re a sexual assault? How dreadful, thoughts with the victim and hope that justice can be served. Any happy thoughts of that evening (Black Midi for me) just seem totally wrong now.

We’ll let you know - line up looks pretty good and BiTF highly recommends. Of course as a West Sussex local, any report may be coloured by my inherited aversion to Bognor Regis 😁 (pretty sure they all have webbed feet and marry their sisters).

And is married. Not to my sister. ;p We (me and partner) call it Bletchley on Sea. Which, if you know Bletchley (not the Bletchley park stuff. The 'real' Bletchley). is VERY funny.....

Layla's disability, we are considering Deer Shed too (As me or manda could possibly go for free as a carer. Application is ongoing). So I would also like any thoughts on the event. Apart from the 'its full of kids' comments. I know this. we ALL know this.

Apart from the 'its full of kids' comments. I know this. we ALL know this. Yes, I went in 2019, and given that they announced WH Lung for next year, why wouldn't you be considering it? And yes, it's full of kids (apparently 50% of attendees are 16 or under), but it's not as noticeable as you might expect as they seem to spend most of their time away from the music stages. The site is fairly compact. In 2019, there were 4 music stages, one of which was small and one very small. Food options were a bit meh. I certainly enjoyed the festival, and would go again if, as last time, I could combine it with visiting friends who live in the area - otherwise it's a bit too far away for me unless the line-up is super-attractive.

Rockaway beach turned out to be a cracking good time - good music with bonus of proper bed and own bathroom. It was great wasn't it. We've all booked for next year already. Top sets of the weekend were Vlure, Scalping, WH Lung (surprise, surprise) and Fake Turins, who I had no knowledge of beforehand, and were my big discovery of the festival. Apparently someone thought they were going to be a Turin Brakes tribute band! Other big shout-outs to Low Hummer, Acid Klaus, Winter Gardens, Personal Trainer, Hamish Hawk and Peter Hook and the Light. Being the first time I've seen Vlure do an afternoon set, my big learning was that my knees can no longer last the whole day if I'm going to spend a chunk of the afternoon pogo-ing, which meant they gave out at midnight after an hour of Hooky's set.
