Truly desperate. That job in Singapore suddenly looks a lot more attractive than it did last night. I am seriously considering whether I want to say in Britain now if this is how over half our population feels.

Can't work out if I'm more disappointed by the decision taken by the British Public or the fact I'm not surprised by it. Just hope they don't come to regret this.....sadly I suspect they will. My disappointment just turned into sweary anger at the young lad on the telly who just said "I voted leave but I'm a bit disappointed with the result as I didn't think my vote would count for anything". if this is the level of competence of the average leave voter, I say lets go back to aboslute monarchy (no hang on - the thought of Prince Charles in charge just made me queasy).

Today feels a bit like that feeling you get when England go out on penalties in the quarter final to the power of ten.
Meant to be going out tonight to celebrate our wedding anniversary but I feel so down right now I just can't get up enthusiasm for anything :-(

Might need some Dutch courage to face Trevor Nunn's Midsummer Night's Dream later, not so much for the Bard, but pro-leave sister-in-law coming too.
Ghastly. Pass the absinthe.

One of my worst days at work ever... everyone really gutted. European colleagues visibly upset and taking this personally which I totally understand. (I work in a large London teaching hospital) Some of them have lived here for 10+ years but had no vote. Not in the least bit surprised at the result but very disappointed in this country.

www.aboutmyvote.co.uk/register-to-vote/who-can-register-to-voteCan someone clarify for me, does that mean that a lot of EU citizens currently residing in the UK could have voted in this referendum? Too late I know to make a difference, and if it's true, horribly underplayed. Edit: Never mind, it didn't apply to this referendum.

I work for a firm of solicitors and with some very intelligent people and half voted to leave. Not everyone who voted is uneducated and scum. Respect people's opinion. Time will tell if it's the right or wrong decision. The result shocked most people. Some people I have spoken to were so torn even though they had watched the debates, read up, spoke to friends etc. This vote is 5 years too early, shouldn't have happened if the country isn't ready to handle the situation either way. But they did, we've voted and we move on. Lets hope it works out (even though it seems some hope it doesn't cause then they can say I told you so!).

No such negativity here, Wayne (although I would have been mad not to keep a list, you know, just in case) - I want this to work, I just feel the NHS has been scapegoated for years and has now been lied about consistently by leave. My specialist subject, forgive me, esp now they're all backtracking faster than Melvin after promising an exciting bill....
No recriminations; I wanted to stick to 'let's never speak of this again' but it's still very divisive, and will be for some time, sadly, until the dust clears.

But the Commonwealthers could. I sat to one for two hours on Thursday. Quite a fearful lady, seemingly strong and opinionated, was worried about the men in groupss in the high street coffee shops. I think that's a cultural issue - I am never bothered by them but I didn't grow up around guns and ghettos.
Hello hoppo, good to see you here - no thoughts yourself?

So it is time to think the unthinkable. Who should take over from Cameron?
We know it will be a Tory since Labour is self-imploding right now and even if they have a general election they will just be wiped off the map.
Now this will sound about as palatable as voting for King Herod as a solution to birth control problems, but bear with me….
We need Boris as PM. I know it sounds absurd, but think it through.
Boris is not a natural Brexiter. He is more pro-European than most Tories. He only joined the Brexit campaign to outflank Cameron. From his perspective, arguably, he has played a blinder.
But his instinct now will be to negotiate with Europe to get a position which is almost as good as remaining “In”. Indeed, he now has real bargaining power and might even get the sort of concessions Cameron failed to get at the beginning of the year which he could bring back and put to the country in a second referendum. And with him behind an “In” vote, it might be won.
He won’t reunite the Tory party, so he’ll only last one term (time enough for Labour to sort itself out?), but he might just pull off saving our EU relationship, whether as full members or some sort of associate member.
If Cameron is the Neville Chamberlin of Brexit, could Boris be our Churchill? Remember, Churchill was thought of as turncoat rouge entity before he “saved the nation”. And after doing so, arguably the best Labour government in history replaced him.
Wishful thinking?

We need Boris as PM. I know it sounds absurd Raffles, have you had a few too many today? It is absurd. This is a man who has no apparent beliefs apart from that he should be PM, someone who as mayor of London gave away to his rich pals as much as he could get away with in terms of bypassing planning restrictions, non-provision of social housing, who apparently gets bored with detail in seconds, apart from seeming quite happy both to lie indiscriminately and make 'facts' up as he goes along. That is to say nothing of his sexual pecadillos. So just the sort of all-round moral compass we need from someone to provide leadership right now. Not.

Of course he has no moral compass.
Of course my idea is absurd.
Everything is absurd- it's like we're living in some surreal nightmare and I hope I wake up soon and find it never really happened.
I'm just clutching at straws.

Thank god for that Raffles, I knew I had taken this badly but for a moment I thought you had resorted to smack to chase the blues away.
I agree that I also keep thinking I am going to wake up from this nightmare soon.
My brother is beside himself, he lives and works in Paris and is thinking about getting a French passport.
I will post my views here shortly, if I ever feel calm enough.

A shocking thing happened last night.
I have an Italian colleague- one of the nicest people you could know. She is highly educated, highly qualified individual. She has won awards for being a role model to young women in engineering, and has worked in disaster relief in post earthquake regions of the world. One of the best.
Last night, she was on the tube, and an elderly (but not senile) lady was struggling to find a seat. So she found her a seat, and helped her into it.
They then sat down, and when the elderly lady asked her what her accent was, she told her that she was Italian.
The elderly lady then let rip on her for being an immigrant who should go home because she was costing our country so much money as a scrounging benefit claimant!
My college was too nice and polite to argue, but ended up in tears.
This is the hateful state we have been led into by Boris, Farage et al. Of course I know she only represents a minority of the brexiters, but it does seem to be a very significant minority.
What can you say? What can we do? Our country seems lost. I truly despair.

I've been 'lucky' I a way that I've had 'baby' stuff as a distraction from the awfulness of our political classes. Whilst the 2 main parties fight amongst themselves as to who might run their insular little groups of fuckwitteries, the nation collapse into financial ruin and racism is now an 'allowed' thing to do.
I despair.

He fucks the country over, then pisses off, class.
You have to wonder about the skeletons in the closet with Bozza though, what's public knowledge is damaging enough - Darius Guppy, numerous affairs, terminations - but you just know there's 'other stuff' just waiting to come to light. Which it probably would in the run up to any election.
Gove though, he's ghastly. Surely unelectable with his record in education. And his wife! Anyone see her email of support? Lady Macbeth or wot.
These are dark days. Might go and live in Sydney.
