Joshua Rozenberg, an excerpt:
"Blair did not establish clear ministerial oversight of post-conflict strategy. He did not ensure that ministers took the necessary decisions to integrate military and civilian contributions. He did not seek adequate assurances that the UK was in a position to meet its likely obligations in Iraq. He did not ensure that the UK’s strategic objectives were sufficiently tested. He did not press President Bush for assurances about US post-conflict plans. He did not consider whether the absence of such plans was a threat to UK strategic objectives or make post-conflict planning a condition of participation in military action."

(paywalled stuff) Remarks they may come to regret
I think we all agree that the comments Donald Trump made in relation to Muslims were divisive, unhelpful and wrong . . . I just think it shows he does not understand the UK and what happens in the UK.” Theresa May, as home secretary in December 2015 after Mr Trump claimed that some areas of Britain were no-go zones for the police.
“I think his remarks are divisive, stupid and wrong and I think if he came to visit our country I think he’d unite us all against him.” David Cameron after the same incident.
“Donald Trump’s ill-informed comments are complete and utter nonsense . . . The only reason I wouldn’t go to some parts of New York is the real risk of meeting Donald Trump.” Boris Johnson weighed in too as mayor of London.
“I profoundly disagree with Donald Trump . . . he could not be further from the truth.” James Brokenshire, now Northern Ireland secretary.
“The odious Donald Trump” Sir Alan Duncan, minister for the Americas, in December.
“As a proud UK/US dual national I distance myself from Trump’s crass and offensive words which reflect an inept grasp of international affairs.” Tobias Ellwood, Foreign Office minister, also in December.
“Trump is worse than [Barry] Goldwater!” Damian Green, work and pensions secretary, in June — referring to the divisive 1964 Republican candidate.

In some ways, if it wasnt so fucking depressing, there is something to almost admire in the plan to just go ahead with leaving the EU, even though is now widely acknowledged to be economically bad for our country (And may even break up the united kingdom), just because 'we' dont like those foreign folk talking all funny near me.

I hope they dont leave us. But.....if i was scottish? With the rest of the UK sleepwalking into the economic quagmire? And with the majority of scots wanting to stay in the EU? I would vote independence too.
I wonder how easy it would be to move to scotland.....

OK....its another of Moz's periodic rants about the state of the country/world/life etc.
Just how did the Tory party turn into teflon?!? They are fucking up EVERYTHING, yet their approval rating has never been higher! WHY?
Take the NHS, for instance. As some of us will know, our daughter spent her first 91 days in hospital. And i cannot sing the praises of all the staff, but especially the John Radcliffe hospital. They saved her life there. We are eternally gratefull.
Now....the last 30 days of that stay we were on Tom's ward (a ward for the surgical team's patients over neo-natal age, where we first started our time...). Everyone was helpful and kind and caring. IT was great! This tuesday, my daughter was admitted to Tom's ward again for 5 days for another operation (reversing the Stoma that was created last time). And....the staff that were there were as helpful & accomodating as before....there was.....just not NEARLY enough of them there! This ended up being VERY frustrating! And....its not the staff's fault. ITs just, after talking to a couple of them, people have left & not replaced (mostly europeans. And i think we ALL know why they felt they had to leave...) or are on long term sick (Stress). So the nursing team is effectively cut in half! This is absurd! The NHS is one of the greatest things about our fantastic country. And to see it being destroyed by both a lack of funding and the ideological reasons for leaving the EU is preposterous!!!
And yet.....this government is riding oh so high in the polls!!! IT is frankly shocking. And.....I dont know what can be done about it, apart from fretting....
Rant over....

Possibly. I'm not entirely convinced*. Change is important, and leadership should be better than shambolic during such a radical change as this presented.
However we do have a populace with license to be racist, no discernible opposition and the hardest-line cabinet for some years.
And Farage appears to be a permanent fixture on tv now, despite continuing failure in his attempt to be an MP, when did society lose its way this much in living memory?
*I am however looking forward to Pr*son P*anet accepting he is now the mainstream, that he has to accept responsibility and must now leave his mother's basement, red pills/YouTube notwithstanding.

Maybe its a good thing that there is no comment on politics in general and the exit of the EU in particular.....but....i dunno. I find it SO depressing. And i am SO sad about it. I thought some people would either a) be moaning on here too so we can wallow in the quagmire or b) have people on here being positive about the thing and have a constructive debate about why i shouldnt be so worried about this great country of ours.... (btw, 'leavers' do NOT own patriotism).

Or maybe people are, like us, just too depressed to talk about it.
I'm already having to broadly avoid the news to stop screaming abuse at the radio / tv as another "little ray of sunshine" tells me why is "going to be great and we'll all get free cake and unicorns" without actually offering any kind of cogent argument as to why this is the case.
I'm also tired of the petty political point scorings by the people who are allegedly sorting this massive cock up out - I accept we're out whether I like it or not but I do expect the politicians (who's wages I pay) to sort this out to the best of their ability regardless of political leanings.
So I'm gritting my teeth and hoping for the best.
On a lighter note (sort of) the news from across the pond is entertaining on occasion - glad the orange one isn't getting it all his own way.
Edit - it's also slightly depressing that France getting Marie Le Pen might actually a positive thing for the UK over brexit

The Mint released the new pound coin on Tuesday. We were a little worried when we first had samples 18 months ago because electronically they are very similar to the 1 Euro coin (the latest coin validators with the then current coin parameters would accept them as Euros) but then the referendum happened and the pound dropped, problem solved.
Silver lining.

We appear to be governed by people who largely either stupid, lacking a moral compass, or unable to do their job (i.e. represent the views and/or interests of their constituents). In particular, BoJo, IDS, 'Dr' Liam, Jeremy *unt, Failing Grayling, Gove are all complete *unts; none of Loathsome, Rudd, Truss seem remotely competent enough to be in the jobs they hold; Corbyn is as much use as a fart in a hurricane; and then there's the unelected malign influences, Dacre, Murdoch, Farage. So, yes, its a clusterf*ck. It's so bad you almost wish we could have Cameron and Osborne back, until you remember they were the tossers who got us into this mess.
So what happens next; well we get a wonderful deal from the EU, and live happily ever afterwards OR alternatively we realise its all been a big mistake and beg to be taken back OR we get either a shit deal or no deal, which is then presented to us as a great deal so we all vote again for those who've negotiated it, so they can then use their freedom from EU legislation and court of Justice/Human Rights to do a reverse Robin Hood by lining the pockets of the rich at the expense of the poor. I think we all know which one is most likely to happen.
So here's what else the Tories are currently working on sodding up too: The Economy The NHS, Schools, Railways, The Union of GB & NI, Housing And still they have a reputation for competency! It beggars belief.
Will that do for starters, Moz?
I'll have those tranquilizers now, nurse.
